"I want to thank all who have supported me and are by my side. My soul believes this isn’t just about me, but about everyone.

"We are in this together, and whether or not I gain my degree at the end of all this because of this strain, I am going to make a change, starting with my city first. Peace of mind, Equality, & Justice."

In a statement, Southway said: "This morning, in discussions between the tenant and Southway officers it has been agreed to adjourn the court proceedings on the basis that an application for a Discretionary Housing Payment is made.

Full Statement From Kamella Sophie Lorelle on why she is in court today

I am a mature student raising a ten-year-old child who is affected by the bedroom tax.

I have been in arrears since 2010 due to the lack of knowledge of people employed within the benefit system. Sympathizing with this, I have an understanding that this is being caused by people being forced into jobs without the correct training or love for their surroundings, leading to a world of confusion.

Having recently proved to housing benefit after nearly three years, with the help of a citizen’s advice advisor, that I am in fact entitled to full housing benefit, they are refusing to take responsibility for their fault.

With the bedroom tax now in place, I am at threat of being evicted and appear in court today.

It is clear that certain rules of this system have not been thought through thoroughly, leaving mothers like myself, who are not claiming income support, in a lose - lose situation, having a detrimental affect on my degree.

I want to thank all who have supported me and are by my side. My soul believes this isn’t just about me, but about everyone.

Whether you are claiming benefits, whether you are a student, whether you are working, or in a job with an official title. I believe affecting one, affects all.

We are in this together, and whether or not I gain my degree at the end of all this because of this strain, I am going to make a change, starting with my city first.

Peace of mind, Equality, & Justice.
